Cooking Club

The Cooking Club is the newest edition to Parkdale’s nutrition initiative. With the guidance of Ms. Anita, grade 5 students have the opportunity to cook and prepare healthy meals after school on Fridays during the month of May. Students cook larger portions to take home and to donate to community members in need. The ‘cuisine collective’-style classes were made possible with the National Bank Grant and the Green Apple Grant awarded by the local Super C on Marcel-Laurin.

'Qu'est-ce qu'on mange?

Grade 5 students are participating in a weekly cooking session called ‘Qu'est-ce qu’on mange,’ where French teacher, Mme. Catherine, Mme Anita, and now Mme Stephanie taught kitchen basics such as chopping vegetables, measuring out ingredients and following recipes. Their new skills turn ordinary ingredients into delicious, healthy meals which are then packaged and donated to local families in need. This project was made possible by a partnership with Maxi et Cie. Marcel-Laurin.

Prêt à Négocier

Grade 6 students had the opportunity to pilot a new video game, "Prêt à Négocier" created by Affordance Studio, in collaboration with student volunteers from Vanier College. Students, volunteers, and staff navigated a series of online and off-line activities to prepare for the final step - negotiating for the pirate ship of their dreams! What a fun way to practice speaking French!
Special thanks to Canadian Parents for French for facilitating the partnership.

Better Breakfast, Better Learning

Parents joined the school nurse for a presentation and a discussion about what it means to prepare a "healthy breakfast." Afterwards, parents participated in a hands-on cooking workshop, hosted by the CARI St-Laurent, our community partners. The children joined in to help (and eat!) all the delicious meals they prepared.

You can download the workshop documents from the Download Center (green box) on the right of the CLC page.
